1) Kitchen test was conducted to 10 households during January 2019 to assess the proportion of fuelwood used for each of the activity, i.e., fodder preparation, hot water for bathing, to cook rice, to cook lentils/dal, to cook vegetables/curry, to make tea only, to cook Ragi meal, and to make non-vegetarian dishes. As per the PDD, the result of the Kitchen test will be applied for the entire second crediting period. The spreadsheet “KPT Results” shows how the sample size for the kitchen test was calculated. The DOE is requested to explain how it [verified] [validated] the sample size of 10, as:
(a) Paragraph 13 (b) and (c) of the standard “Sampling and surveys for CDM project activities and programmes of activities” (version 08.0) requires that, when developing a sampling plan, the PP shall calculate the sample size which calculation is dependent on the target value, that is, the expected value of the parameter, which should be determined using the project participants’ or the coordinating/managing entity’s knowledge and experience, the expected variance (or standard deviation) for that measure in the sample, based on the results from similar studies including other similar CDM project activities or previous monitoring periods, pilot studies, or from the project planner’s own knowledge of the data. However, as shown in the spreadsheet “KPT Results”, the sample size was calculated using the average value and standard deviation from the result of the kitchen test conducted in 10 households during January 2019 itself;
(b) The monitoring report states that since the sample size returns a value less than 30, student’s t distribution was used and that the iterated value until which there is no change in the value of sample size n, gives the maximum value of 7 for the different food items. However, the spreadsheet “KPT Results” shows that the iterated value reaches 14, 18 and 20 for cooking lentils/dals, cooking Ragi and making non-vegetarian dishes respectively.
