CDM Executive Board Plans Remainder of 2022

Bonn, 9 September 2022: The Executive Board of the clean development mechanism concluded its 115th meeting in Bonn, Germany, following a strategy session, held on Monday 5 September, before the start of the meeting. At this meeting, the Board planned its activities for the rest of 2022.

The Board agreed on its annual report to be presented at the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol at its seventeenth session, which covers the period from 10 September 2021 to 8 September 2022. Once finalized, the report will be published on the UNFCCC and CDM websites.

In addition, the Board agreed to the provisional agenda of its 116th meeting to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from 31 October to 3 November 2022, in conjunction with the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27), scheduled 6-18 November.  The Executive Board also planned the side-event it will hold during COP 27.

With regards to operational work, the Board approved the revised “Glossary: CDM terms” to include definitions of terms related to market penetration. As a consequence, and for uniformity purposes, the Board further approved revisions to relevant methodologies and tools, to include a consistent definition and thresholds for market penetration.

In the area of standards and tools, the Board approved, as major revisions, three methodologies and one tool, as listed in the report of the meeting, as well as a list of methodologies and tools for small-scale CDM activities.

The Board also took note of activities undertaken involving stakeholders, such as designated national authorities, applicant entities and DOEs. The information concerned the 59th DOE conference call held on 14 July 2022, the Latin America and the Caribbean regional CDM DNA Forum meeting held on 18 and 19 July 2022 on the margins of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week, and the African regional CDM DNA Forum meeting held on 31 August and 1 September 2022, on the margins of the Africa Climate Week.
