Call for input on the draft revision of the methodology "AMS-III.B.: Switching fossil fuels" (12 to 27 November 2014, 24:00 GMT)

The SSC WG was seeking inputs on the top-down revision of the approved methodology:

“AMS-III.B.: Switching fossil fuels”

The draft revision was carried out in response to MAP project 223 “Simplification and streamlining of methodologies, tools and standards”, as per the 2014 workplan of the SSC WG.

The purpose of the revision is to further improve consistency amongst fuel switch methodologies, distinguishing methods by project size across small-scale methodologies for fuel switch and approved large-scale methodologies (e.g. emission reduction calculations, applicability, definition of existing facility, simplification for micro scale projects).

The draft revision:

(a)    Expands applicability of the methodology for project activities which are grid connected and export electricity to a grid;
(b)    Includes additional approaches to establish baseline for Greenfield project activities e.g. reference plant;
(c)    Provides simplified steps in estimation of baseline efficiency, project efficiency and net calorific values of the fuels.

Stakeholders were invited to provide their inputs on the draft revisions of the methodologies, as contained in annex 19 of the report of the 46th meeting of the SSC WG by using the commenting table found here.

The scope of the public input shall include but is not limited to text highlighted in the draft revised methodology, as contained in annex 19 of the report of the 46th meeting of the SSC WG.

The call for inputs from stakeholders was open from 12 to 27 November 2014, 24:00 GMT.

The public inputs will be taken into account when preparing the draft revised methodology to be recommended to the Board at a future meeting.
