In an effort to build on growing interest in the Kyoto Protocol’s clean development mechanism (CDM) in Africa, partner UN
agencies (UNEP, UNDP, WB, UNITAR, UNCTAD and UNFCCC) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) have announced
they will organize a second all-Africa Carbon Forum,
at the United Nations Gigiri complex in Nairobi, Kenya, on 3–5 March 2010.

CDM audio file service : new downloads

The UNFCCC secretariat is pleased to offer a new series of audio files covering the basic
workings of the Clean Development Mechanism. The new audio files were created to explain
topics such as baseline, project boundary and leakage. They also offer more information about fees,
methodologies, tools and CERs. Look for more audio files in the coming weeks.

Nairobi Framework welcomes new partners
Two more international agencies have thrown their support behind the Nairobi Framework initiative aimed at
assisting developing countries, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa, to improve their level of participation
in the clean development mechanism. UNCTAD, the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development, and UNITAR,
the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, both recently accepted invitations to join the framework,
with founding partners UNDP, UNEP,
World Bank Group, African
Development Bank, and UNFCCC.

We will be looking for photos and videos that tell an interesting CDM story, whether it is about the creation of new jobs,
the greening of industry, or the development of rural services and infrastructure.
