Bonn, Germany, 20 September 2017 – The CDM Designated National Authorities Forum convened its 18th meeting this week in Bonn and elected Ms. Maia Tskhvaradze of Georgia and Ms. Lorna Ritchie of the United Kingdom as Global Co-Chairs for 2018. Ms. Tskhvaradze is Chief Specialist of Climate Change Service at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, Georgia.

31 March 2017 - The Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) in Panama City, to be operated by the UNFCCC secretariat in partnership with CAF, opened today. Bonn, 7 April 2014 – The 250th PoA will install off-grid micro hydro power plants to provide electricity for farmer households living in Sichuan province on the upper reaches of the Yangtze river in China. CDM, JI stakeholders meet for joint workshop

Bonn, 25 March 2012 - For the first time, stakeholders involved in both the CDM and the Joint Implementation (JI) mechanism gathered for a joint coordination workshop to learn about recent and planned improvements and to discuss the future of the mechanisms. CDM Radio Club for Africa Launched

20 Feb 2012 - Radio journalists and radio stations in Africa are now invited to join the CDM Radio Club for Africa. Radio journalists will be given the chance to promote their work and enter a contest to win various prizes, including a possible free trip to the UN climate change conference. Radio stations can select from a wide variety of broadcast-ready radio packages distributed for free. The club aims to spread the word about the CDM in Africa and extend the benefits of the mechanism to communities that have not yet benefited from the CDM. more ».


First cook stove PoA in Africa registered with CDM

20 Feb 2012 - The first Africa-based PoA focusing on efficient cook stoves has been successfully registered with the CDM. This programme aims to disseminate 100,000 cook stoves in Nigeria in the next five years. It expects to reduce emissions by as much as 250,000 tonnes of CO2 annually; the equivalent of taking 44,470 cars off the road each year. more ».

16 September - The Secretariat has begun offering summaries of CDM EB meeting reports in all six UN official languages, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, Russian and Spanish (Castilian), in response to a request from Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and a decision of the Board. The meeting opened with a brief ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Marrakesh Accords, the rules that govern the CDM.     Data on wind and hydro tariffs in China published

    24 June 2010 - The UNFCCC secretariat has published detailed information on wind and hydro tariffs in the People's Republic of China applied by the CDM Executive Board in its decisions on reviews of requests for project registration. The information note, prepared at the request of the Board, is intended to provide transparency on the appropriateness of the applicable highest tariffs for wind and hydro power projects in China, per province, applied by the Board in its decisions.     Regional DNA Forum for Africa wraps up at UN compound in Nairobi

    04 March 2010 - The first Regional DNA Forum for Africa has concluded its work at the UN Gigiri compound in Nairobi. It was an extremely positive meeting bringing together 85 CDM designated national authority delegates representing 44 countries, 23 invited speakers, including the Chair and Vice-Chair of the CDM Executive Board, private sector representatives and international organizations. The forum focused on improving access to the CDM in Africa.


    CDM Executive Board selects Chair, Vice-Chair

    08 February 2010 - The Executive Board of the clean development mechanism (CDM) has chosen Clifford Mahlung of Jamaica to chair the Board in 2010, and Pedro Martins Barata of Portugal to serve as Vice-Chair.
    Mr. Mahlung, who was Vice-Chair in 2009, takes over from Lex de Jonge of the Netherlands.   more »


    Clean Development Mechanism passes 2000th registered project milestone in less than two years

    06 January 2010 - The Kyoto Protocol’s clean development mechanism (CDM) has registered its 2000th project, a biogas extraction and utilization project, in Sakaeo Province, Thailand, expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 56,000 tonnes annually.

    UNFCCC CDM Photo and Video Contest 2009 -- Changing Lives . . . And the winners are!

    01 December 2009 - The judges’ scores have been tallied in the CDM Changing Lives Photo and Video Contest, and here are the winning entries. This year’s contest expanded on the success of Changing Lives 2008, with the addition of a video category, in which entrants were asked to complete the statement, “People should know about this CDM project because . . .”. The winners were recognized in a ceremony hosted by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer in Copenhagen on 11 December. Congratulations to the winners, and congratulations and thank you to all of the talented entrants in this year's contest.

    Nairobi Framework welcomes new partners

    Two more international agencies have thrown their support behind the Nairobi Framework initiative aimed at assisting developing countries, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa, to improve their level of participation in the clean development mechanism.     CDM Technology Transfer report released

    18 March 2009 - The UNFCCC secretariat has released a study, prepared by a team of consultants, containing an analysis of information on: Technology Transfer (TT) used in CDM; TT by project type (24 project types); TT by host country; technology supplier versus buyer participants; origin of technology; and TT versus technology needs, as submitted by project participants in their project design documents.     03 December 2008 - Judging has wrapped up in the UNFCCC/CDM International Photo Contest 2008. From the more than 150 images that were entered, Catching the Sun, by Nic Bothma, of South Africa, took top honours. Photos from Inner Mongolia, India and Brazil, rounded out the top four. Congratulations to the top finishers and to everyone who entered.

    John Kilani appointed Director in support of Kyoto Protocol carbon market mechanisms

    30 June 2008 - Mr. John Kilani has accepted the post of Director of the Sustainable Development Mechanisms (SDM) programme at the United Nations climate change secretariat. The appointment was announced by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer, who expressed his confidence in the new Director, set to take up duties later this summer.   Press release

    20 June 2008 - The Executive Board, at its thirty-ninth meeting (EB39), considered the draft CDM validation and verification manual (CDM-VVM) and agreed to invite public for comments on the draft for the period of 16 May 2008 to 15 June 2008.

    Memorandum of Understanding on the exchange of CDM data

    22 May 2008 - The UNFCCC secretariat has signed the first memorandums of understanding with two important CDM information providers that should result in their receiving a faster, smoother flow of CDM data. IGES based in Japan and UNEP Risoe, in Denmark will soon begin receiving data from the secretariat directly in electronic form, to enhance these long-established and much-used data and analysis services. The data will continue to be made available on the UNFCCC CDM website, and any CDM data and resultant analysis by IGES and UNEP Risoe will continue to be made available on the web free of charge.


    CDM passes 1000th registered project milestone

    14 April 2008 - The Kyoto Protocol’s clean development mechanism has registered its 1000th project, an energy efficiency project in Andhra Pradesh, India, expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 34,000 tonnes annually. The project was registered by CDM Executive Board Chair Rajesh Kumar Sethi at an impromptu ceremony at a joint coordination workshop in Bonn, Germany.   Press release


    CDM Catalogue of Decisions

    09 January 2008 - The Catalogue of CDM related decisions (CoD) has been posted on the CDM website. The CoD aims to facilitate the development of CDM project activities by improving access to information. The CoD project was launched at the CDM Joint Coordination Workshop 2007 in March, in Bonn. Since then, the CoD has been fed, tested and improved thanks to users' comments. It is now open for a broad user test/comment phase until the end of the year more »

    CDM Bazaar web-portal will link buyers, sellers and service providers

    05 December 2007 - The CDM Bazaar web-portal www.cdmbazaar.net has been launched to facilitate exchange of information among buyers, sellers and service providers engaged in the Kyoto Protocol’s clean development mechanism (CDM). This joint effort of the UNFCCC secretariat and UNEP RISOE Centre in Denmark will help stakeholders in the CDM “get down to business,” said UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer
