I-DEV0418: 0528 Shri Bajrang WHR CDM Project: Deviation for a period from July 2010 to Jan 2011

This is the first verification subsequent to the design change request and approval of the same by CDM EB.
The verification covers a period of 29 months. The monitoring plan of the registered PDD specifies the
accuracy class of the energy meters (generation and auxiliary) as 0.5. In line with the monitoring plan, energy
meters of class 0.5 accuracy class were installed since the inception of the project. The energy meters
(generation and auxiliary) were replaced on 06 July 2010 (for calibration), with accuracy class of 1.0, due to
immediate non-availability of 0.5 accuracy class meters. The replacement of energy meters with accuracy class
of 1.0 is a deviation from the description provided in the monitoring plan of the registered PDD, dated 2
December 2010. Thus during the verification period of 29 months, the project operated in line with the
monitoring plan for the first 22 months and deviated in terms of the accuracy class for the last seven months.
Hence the deviation requested is on permission for the use of accuracy class 1.0 meter for the last seven
months. This deviation is justified as the annual calibration of the meters indicates the accuracy to be in the
range of 0.2-0.45%. The calibration of the 0.5 class accuracy meters also indicate the calibration to be in the
range of 0.3 to 0.4. Hence the use of accuracy class 1 for the meters in the last seven months does not have a
bearing on the emission reduction calculation.

The deviation does not require a revision of the monitoring plan as the meters will be replaced with accuracy
class 0.5 subsequent to the next annual shut down. There is no other change in the project activity as described
in the registered PDD, dated 2 December 2010.

The project activity deviates from the description provided in the monitoring plan of the registered PDD, dated
2 December 2010, due to the replacement of energy meters with accuracy class of 1.0 instead of 0.5. The error
observed during the calibration of the energy meters with accuracy class of 1.0 was found to be within the
range of 0.2 to 0.45, less than 0.5. Thus the replacement of energy meters does not have any impact on the
estimates of the emission reduction. The correction factor of 1% (accuracy class of the replaced meter) shall be
applied to the electricity generation (1 - (1/100)) and auxiliary consumption (1 + (1/100)) for the deviation
period, in view of the conservativeness.
